about.
It all started with a trip to the Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam with my wife, Nasim, at the end of summer in 2023. We spent the entire day immersed in his world, and upon leaving, I bought myself a sketchpad and some pens. I didn't think much of it, casually sketching here and there in the weeks leading up to Yom Kippur. This year I was dreading the fast more than usual. I had told my incredibly patient and amazing wife that I wasn't feeling very spiritual this year and was considering not observing the holiday. When the day came, I couldn't bring myself to skip the fast. To keep myself occupied from a downward spiral of hangriness and lack of spiritual connection, I decided to sketch rabbis in my notepad and something unexpected happened- I discovered a new artistic style that you see in my drawings and paintings today. I’m not sure why or how it happened, but suddenly I found that I could draw just about anything and had never felt so connected as I did on that holy day. It has never felt like something I had created, but rather a fortunate and intentional gift from G-d, one that I have continued to explore every day since.
